OutMigration at Monkeytown, Brooklyn

Cafe Drake recently traipsed over to Monkeytown, along with Jen Lazzaro and Julie Bench, for a 12-course meal and performance extravaganza entitled OutMigration. A killer soundtrack culled from such glamorous and diverse sources as German chanteuse Ingrid Caven, Italian 60s movie scores and electropop king Jan Turkenberg set the tone for a surreal evening of entertainment, both on stunningly presented plates and a "stage" of live grass, mirrors and giant movie screens. Highlights from the tasting menu included: mango ravioli, clams on the half shell with bacon and potato, seared tuna slices crowned with soy foam, truffled corn pudding, parsnip mash topped with roasted rabbit, tea-braised pork with sweet black beans, espresso-encrusted venison, ancho squash flan, chicken "clouds" with salsa water, poached salmon wrapped with shaved carrots and apple, lime lychee tea, champagne cocktails and much more. Keep your eyes open for the next "event", scheduled for Fall 2007.
