Splendors of September

Cafe Drake is quite happy bidding the humid, broiling Summer of '07 farewell, an easy goodbye for us. An extra bonus is the jumpstart our entire hometown receives, and we're booking up early over here. Upcoming events you should swing by if possible to say Hi include: art openings by Cafe Drake pals Emilio Perez and David Herbert, on respectively September 6 and September 7. Check out details of their shows at Galerie Lelong (www.galerielelong.com) and 33 Bond Gallery (www.33bond.com) and see pics above (David: middle, Emilio: third).

September 8 brings the Deitch Projects Art Parade once again to downtown Manhattan, with sculpture and installation/performance from David Herbert and old-time Cafe Drake compadre (and former roommate) Hrafnhildur Arnardottir (photo above as well:top). This highly interactive event is sure to be a blast and offer a more light-hearted side of NY's art demimonde.

Even if you're not Jewish plan on attending alternative Lower East Side Rosh HaShana services at the Angel Orensanz Foundation at 172 Norfolk Street on Wednesday September 12 at 10pm. An all-star musical lineup featuring members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire and Antibalas will perform traditional cantorial songs mashed-up with pop, the blues and indie rock. Go to www.swaymachinery.com for further info. See ya there! Oh, and it's free.
