Dinner at Cafe Sellers

Cafe Drake's old pal David Sellers consistently turns out miracles from his Williamsburg kitchen, whipping up meals rich, satisfying and with more than a nod to healthy basics. Recently we watched the master at work, perched with Julian on our lap, sipping a fresh daiquiri made superb by David and Natalie's seemingly never ending supply of top-shelf, small-batch Martinique rums. As good as the cocktails were, they definitely took second place to perfectly cooked, moist and flaky whole sea bass, pan fried with butter and vaguely (South East) Asian spices. The bass sat comfortably atop buttery rice with cardamom and caraway seeds, and alongside a salad of baby arugula, lightly tossed with 12-year aged balsamico vinegar and sliced beefsteak tomatoes. One day we're gonna ask David how it does it. p.s. See photos above and notice dinner was so good it made Julian stand on his head!
