David Dines at Cafe Drake



A quick meal was thrown together recently on the occasion of our good friend David Sellers dropping over for a drink. Hastily prepared but by no means shoddy in execution, we grazed on broiled rare sirloin steaks, rubbed with chile powder, brown sugar and other dry spices; soft polenta with cheddar cheese and roasted poblano peppers and a simple salad of lightly-dressed frisee greens. Passed at the table was a sauce of roasted tomatillos, serrano chiles and lime juice. David provided a tart Alsatian Riesling to offset the spice and compliment the meal's pleasing acidity.
